CAMBODIA-LAOS Project

CIMPA initiated a project of development of Mathematics in Cambodia. For 2005 and 2006, we received the financial support of Agence Universitaire pour la Francophonie (AUF), of International Mathematical Union (IMU), with the participation of the universities of Paris VI and Marseille, the Institute of Mathematics of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the Faculty of Sciences of Sfax and CIMPA. The main goal is to give some training courses in mathematics at undergraduate level in order to prepare a master degree in Cambodia. This project continued in 2006-2007 due to the support of the "Basic International Sciences Program" of UNESCO. This project will be enlarged to National University of Laos (NUOL) at Vientiane. The support asked to AUF in 2007 in order to prepare a master degree program at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) has been rejected. Besides CIMPA, the french universities of Paris 6, Marseille and Nice, are partners.
This project should receive the participation of american mathematicians in partnership with "US National Committee on Mathematics", altogether with Japanese mathematicians supported by Toyota Foundation.
The goal is to create a regional master program in Cambodia, Laos with the collaboration of Thailand and Vietnam which should be one of the main activities of a future regional center of mathematical studies.
